Su-57 made the first flight with a new engine

Today, on December 5, 2017 the newest Russian fighter of the fifth generation Su-57 made the first flight with the engine of the second stage.

The flight was performed by the Hero of the Russian Federation, the chief pilot of PJSC "Sukhoi Company" (as part of the UAC), Sergei Bogdan. The flight duration was 17 minutes. The flight was completed in accordance with the conditions of the flight assignment.

"A successful flight with a new engine gives an additional boost to the program of the 5th generation fighter. This is proof of the high potential of Russian aircraft building, capable of creating highly intelligent advanced systems - a unique glider, innovative digital avionics and the latest engines", said Denis Manturov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

The Su-57 fighter was formerly known as the T-50. This is a  Prospective Airborne Complex of Frontline Aviation, or PAK FA - a multifunctional fighter of the fifth generation, designed to destroy all types of air targets at long and short distances, to defeat the enemy's ground and surface targets with the overcoming of its air defense systems.

The first flight took place on January 29, 2010 in Komsomolsk-on-Amur.

Until today, all the built Su-57 fighters were tested with the "engine of the first stage" - 117C.

New engines are installed on the prototype T-50-2 (board number 052). This is the second flight prototype, performed within the framework of the PAK FA program. He first performed the flight on March 3, 2011.

Design work should be completed in 2019, then it is expected to begin deliveries of these aircraft to the military. 

The installation batch will consist of 12 aircraft, said the head of the United Aircraft Corporation Yuri Slyusar
