An Ilyushin Il-76 plane of the Russian Emergency Ministry has successfully delivered relief supplies to Vietnam. The country hit by typhoon Damri received 40 tons of tents and food – sugar, tinned milk, meat and fish.

Following an order of the Russian President, the plane with humanitarian aid aboard took off from Moscow at night of 8 November and headed to Cam Ranh. The supplies are going to be sent to the worst-hit areas of Vietnam. The foodstuffs are going to be distributed among the neediest people.

Typhoon Damri that hit central Vietnam at the weekend has become the most devastating disaster the country suffered from over the past two decades. It disrupted transportation services in central Vietnam. A 30-kilometer-long section of railway connecting the north and south of the country is under water, as are a lot of sections of the Transvietnam highway. Many areas are without power.

The death toll in central Vietnam has exceeded 61 people, dozens are missing and the number is going up. Some 80 thousand buildings were damaged and about 40 thousand people were evacuated.
