Su-34 fighter-bombers will take part in air defence tactical drills of the Western MD tank formation in Astrakhan region.

After taking off from an airfield in Voronezh region the flight of multirole combat aircraft will cover more than 1,000 km flight to the Kapustin Yar site where it will drill overwhelming of air defence system, and strike targets of the indicated enemy. In its turn, the air defence elements will be assigned to detect air targets and eliminate thermal targets imitating airplanes.

The drills will complete in October with more than 1,200 troops and 400 units of military and special hardware involved. Life-fire exercise will be conducted by the Tor and Buk SAM missile systems, Tunguska anti-aircraft weapon system and MANPADS Igla and Verba deployed from Moscow, Smolensk, Nizhny Novgorod and Ivanovo regions.
