The Air Defence units of Russian military base in Abkhazia repelled an unexpected air attack within the framework of the AD fire control exercise.

The personnel practised detecting and destroying single and group air targets at fire positions located on mountain, forest and coastal terrain.

The main mission of air defence units was to destroy a simulated enemy before he would deliver air strikes on critical infrastructure facilities.

Moreover, the servicemen seized and hid their starting positions, organized signal and control system, prepared vehicles for action, conducted reconnaissance and track down air targets amid jamming environment.

The special attention was paid to mastering the usage of the Garmon modern small-sized radar intended to detect various air targets at a range of up to 45 km.

In total, the exercise involved more than 500 troops and 50 pieces of air defence military hardware including the S-300, Osa-AKM, Strela-10 air defence missile systems and Igla MANPADS.
