In accordance to the modernization and rearmament program of the naval aviation of the Russian Navy, about 100 new aircraft will have been introduced by 2020.
In particular, ship and attack aviation units will receive MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB. Ka-29 helicopters will be replaced by Ka-52K Katran newest strike reconnaissance helicopters.
According to the Commander of the naval aviation of the Russian Navy Major General Igor Kozhin, sea-based unmanned aerial vehicles are one of the most prospective directions to be researched by the leading design engineering bureaus.
