Russia certifies two GTF engines

Russian Aviaton » Monday September 26, 2016 23:46 MSK

The Russian Interstate Aviation Committee’s Aviation Register (IAC AR) has certified Pratt & Whitney’s PW1400G and PW1100G geared turbofan (GTF) engines, enabling the engines to be flown by Russian airlines, ATWonline reported.

Russia’s S7 Airlines, which announced an Airbus A320neo engine order in April, now has the option to select the PW1100G to power the new aircraft. The other engine option on the A320neo is the CFM International LEAP-1A. The PW1400G is one of the engine options for Russia’s Irkut MC-21 aircraft along with Russia’s PD-14 engine.

Irkut rolled out the MC-21-300 aircraft June 8 at its factory in Irkutsk. Its first flight is planned for December 2016-February 2017. Delivery to a first customer is expected before the end of 2018.
