Lithuanian MoD Claims NATO Air Force Escorted Russian Jet Once Last Week

Russian Aviaton » Tuesday September 13, 2016 14:16 MSK

Allegedly, the aircraft did not have pre-filed flight plan, maintained radio communication with air traffic control centers and had its onboard transponders switched on.

"NATO jets conducting air police mission identified and escorted an IL-76 flying from the mainland of Russia to Kaliningrad District on September 9," Lithuania’s National Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Responding to various similar accusations by Lithuania in the past weeks, the Russian Foreign Ministry has reiterated that it did not violate international law and did not cross Baltic States’ borders.
