Russia's Central Military District to Hold First S-400 Firings in September

First field firings of S-400 air defense systems (NATO reporting name SA-21 Growler) that entered service with Russia’s Central Military District will be held in Siberia in September, the district’s press service said in a statement on Tuesday.

The firings will be held at the Telemba firing range in Russia’s eastern Republic of Buryatia.

"First field firings of S-400 air defense systems are going to be held in Siberia in September. The drills will simulate protection of strategically important facilities. It will be the drills involving S-400 Triumph air defense systems that were delivered to the Central Military District this year. They replaced S-300PT air defense systems," the statement said.

The S-400 Triumph is an air defense missile system, which integrates a multifunction radar, autonomous detection and targeting systems, anti-aircraft missile systems, launchers, and command and control center. It is capable of firing different three types of missiles capable of destroying aerial targets at short-to-extremely long range.
