Russian airlines carried 38.1 million passengers in the 2016 first half, down 7.6% year-over-year (year over year). International traffic is down 26.8% to 13.4 million passengers compared to the year-ago period. Domestic traffic is up 7.7% to 24.7 million, Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) reported.
In June, international traffic was down 30.5% to 3.1 million, while domestic traffic grew 4.6% to 5.6 million passengers.
All five Russian carriers reported increased passenger numbers in 1H. Aeroflot carried 13.5 million passengers, up 12.2% year over year. S7 Airlines carried 4.3 million passengers, up 19.4% year over year. Aeroflot subsidiary, Rossiya Airlines, carried 2.96 million in the 1H, up 26% year over year. UTair carried 2.8 million passengers, up 14%. Ural Airlines carried 2.66 million, up 17.7% year over year. Pobeda, an Aeroflot low-cost subsidiary, carried 1.99 million passengers, up 80.7%.
Rossiya Airline subsidiaries OrenAir and Donavia reported significant decreases in passenger numbers in the 1H. OrenAir carried 491346 passengers in 1H, down 58.7% year over year. Donavia carried 209478 passengers, down 71.2% year over year. Aurora Airline, Aeroflot Far East subsidiary, carried 607040 passengers, up 19.9% year over year.
