Indian Government Approves Sending BrahMos Cruise Missiles to Chinese Border

The Indian government has approved placing of BrahMos missiles at the northeastern border with China, local media reported Wednesday.

The Cabinet’s Security Committee gave a go-ahead to send a missile regiment to the line of contact along India’s Arunachal Pradesh state, sources told the Economic Times newspaper.

The regiment will reportedly have 100 missiles with "trajectory maneuver and steep-dive capabilities" to conduct mountain warfare, according to the outlet.

BrahMos is a short-range supersonic missile developed jointly by India and Russia. It has been in use by the Indian Navy since 2005. The missile has a range of 180 miles and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 660 pounds.
