Russian Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov opens airfield in town of Vytegra, Vologda Region

A ceremony dedicated to signing of a deed of conveyance of the airfield of the town of Vytegra to Emergencies Ministry has taken place today in Vologda Region within the V Russian Emergencies Ministry Forum and Society for Safety non-governmental organization.

The Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov personally opened renewed airfield.

The Minister pointed out that this airfield will be used to deploy rescuers to the Arctic zone for training of rescuers and delivery of cargo.

“By opening this airfield we develop Russian aircraft and rescue technologies, which allow increasing rapidness of response to emergencies, as well as provide protection of economical, infrastructural and other projects in the Arctic”, said the Minister. “The medical aircraft of the Emergencies Ministry will base on this airfield”.

The Governor of Vologda Region Oleg Kuvshinnikov pointed out that reopening of the airfield gives a new direction for further development of Vologda Region.

“Today we open a new window of opportunities for development and mastering of the Arctic zone and the western regions of Vologda Region to Russian Emergencies Ministry”, he said.

Airport is capable of receiving light planes, such as the Antonov An-2, the Yakovlev Yak-40 and others. In the future it is planned to expand the capabilities and receive such planes as the Ilyushin Il-112 and Il-114.
