Russia's AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) has been granted fifth-freedom designations by local authorities to perform cargo flights from Russia via European hubs to the US, ATWonline reported.
Russia’s federal air-transport agency Rosaviatsia published the designations. ABC can perform service from Moscow via Amsterdam or Frankfurt-Main, Munich or Leipzig, Germany.
US destinations include Chicago; New York; Houston; Miami; Dallas; Los Angeles; San Francisco; Atlanta; Seattle; Columbus, Ohio; Boston; and Washington.
ABC also received the designation for flights from Krasnoyarsk, Russia, via Amsterdam to Chicago, New York, Houston, Dallas, Miami and Los Angeles. It also received authorization for Moscow—Houston—Luxembourg—Abu Dhabi—Moscow routes. All the designations include fifth-freedom rights at each service segment.
ABC has been obtaining approvals for various international cargo services during the last several years, developing a network that is able to connect Europe, North America and Asia.
ABC`s parent company, Volga-Dnepr Group, finalized terms of acquisition with Boeing for 20 747-8 freighters valued at approximately $7.58 billion at list prices at the recent Farnborough International Airshow. Four aircraft have been delivered.
Additionally, it was announced the group will provide long-term logistics support for Boeing Commercial Airplanes and its partners, using Boeing 747-8 and Antonov An 124-100 freighters.
