Flights from Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia, to Baku,Azerbaijan, have been resumed for the first time this year, after several months of hiatus, theStrigino Airportin Nizhniy Novgorod reported on Friday, according to TASS.
“Since August 26, 2016, one has resumed direct air service en route Nizhniy Novgorod –Baku. These flights will be operated by Komiaviatrans Airlines, Russia, on a comfortable Embraer-145 aircraft with a carrying capacity of 50 passengers”, the airport said.
Flights will be operated once a week, on Fridays.
According to this source, this destination is popular among both the residents of Nizhniy Novgorod and inhabitants of Baku especially in autumn, when warm season begins atAzerbaijan resorts.
Previously, the Komiaviatrans Airlines operated its flights from the Strigino Airport toMoscowand Syktyvkar. As regards the Nizhniy Novgorod – Baku air route, other air carriers including, UTair Airlines, Russia, and Azerbaijan Airlines were involved here last year.
The Strigino International Airport, a part of the Airports of Regions Holding, Russia, serves both international and domestic flights and is the main alternate airfield for the Moscow air hub. In the H1 2016, the Nizhniy Novgorod airport’s air passenger traffic has decreased by 20% and amounted to 334 thousand people. The most popular destinations includeMoscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Kazan and some cities in southern Russia.
