Nordavia assumes several Red Wings routes

Russian Aviaton » Thursday August 11, 2016 10:22 MSK

Russian firm Sky Invest JSC has reorganized its network distribution following its purchase of Nordavia earlier in the year.

In a statement to Russia's Interfax news agency, Nordavia said it has now assumed twelve routes formerly operated by sister carrier, Red Wings, which abandoned them after it ended SSJ 100 operations in June. The sudden reduction in capacity left Red Wings unable to ply the routes forcing Nordavia to step in, CH-aviation reported.

Among the new services Nordavia is in the process of opening from Moscow Domodedovo include:Kaliningrad, Grozny, Makhachkala, Orenburg, Orsk, Adler/Sochi, and Simferopol.

Nordavia, which is repositioning itself as an LCC, has seen its passenger throughput for the month of July climb 41% year-on-year. It has also reaped great benefits from a partnership with S7 Airlines, it said.

Until Sky Invest's take over, Nordavia had focussed on connecting Moscow and Arkhangelsk, in Russia's Northwestern Federal District, with the rest of the country using a fleet of nine B737-500s. In line with its transformation into a budget carrier, said fleet has now been reconfigured from a dual-class layout to a single-class layout featuring 135 economy class seats.
