A Moscow court is starting hearings in the criminal case against Vnukovo airport staff over the 2014 crash of former CEO of the French Total oil and gas company Christophe de Margerie's jet on Thursday, a court source told RIA Novosti.
Representatives of the victims (the Unijet airline that the jet belonged to, as well as de Margerie’s family and the insurance company) will be present at the hearings of the Solntsevo District Court in Moscow, according to the source.
De Margerie died on the night from October 20 to October 21, 2014, when his business jet crashed in Moscow’s Vnukovo airport. De Margerie was the only passenger on board the aircraft. Three French crew members also died in the crash.
The prosecutor's office has brought charges against snowplow driver Vladimir Martynenko, whose vehicle hit against the plane during takeoff, provoking the crash, as well as senior shift engineer Vladimir Ledenev and air traffic controllers Roman Dunaev, Aleksander Kruglov and Nadezhda Arkhipova.
According to the Russian Investigative Committee, violations of runway rules and the negligence of air traffic controllers led to the accident.
Margerie spoke against western sanctions imposed on Russia over the situation in Ukraine in his last public address made before the Vnukovo crash.
