Russia is not aware of incidents reported by the US press of an alleged Aerospace Forces strike on an outpost in Syria used by US and British forces, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday.

Russian aircraft bombed a rebel outpost near the Jordanian border on June 16 that turned out to secretly house 20 British special forces and was used by US troops as well, according to Thursday's Wall Street Journal report citing unnamed US officials.

"We have no knowledge [of the incident] and in this case I have nothing to comment on this newspaper article. Again, this is an issue that should be addressed to the Ministry of Defense," Peskov told reporters. 

Syria has been mired in a civil war since 2011, with Islamic opposition factions, including extremist and terrorist groups such as the Daesh, fighting the Syrian Army in an attempt to topple the legitimate government of President Bashar Assad.
