156 Armenian citizens to be transported to Armenia by Russian Emergency Situations Ministry aircraft

The Crisis Management Center of the Emergency Situations Ministry of Armenia contacted the North Ossetia CMC at 09:15 on June 29. The CMC reported that the situation at the collapsed section of the highway leading to the Lars checkpoint remains unchanged, reconstruction works are continuing and two emergency shelters have been installed for 70 people. People are being provided with food. Currently, works are underway to transport Armenian citizens who are located at the Russian border checkpoint by the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry’s aircraft.

Today, the aircraft which will transport 156 Armenian citizens to Armenia will land at the Vladikavkaz airport. The route and ETA will be informed later.

The Armenian CMC is in regular contact with the Georgian, Russian and North Ossetia CMCs. The ongoing operations are fully under the attention of the Armenian PM Hovik Abrahamyan.

Earlier on June 28, the Russian CMC reported about heavy vehicle presence in North Ossetia – approximately 200 cargo vehicles, 40 passenger cars (77 passengers including 10 children) and two buses with 80 passengers. Pregnant women are among the passengers, who don’t have measures to take alternative ways to Armenia.

Later, the CMC of North Ossetia reported that 53 cargo trucks are stranded in Upper Lars checkpoint, another 11 in Rendant, 2 buses and 40 passenger cars. (Overall 230 Armenian citizens).

Colonel-General Nikolay Lityuk, Head of the Northern Caucasus Regional Center of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, visited the Armenian citizens at the border and reviewed the conditions. On June 23 it was reported that 2 km from the Upper Lars checkpoint (Georgian territory), 600 meters of the highway was completely destroyed by floods of the Terek River. There are no injured.
