"Perm Engines" has completed the first year of practice-oriented education of students (dual training project). Certificates of Qualification for trade occupations were bestowed upon students by Olga Krasavina, HR Director of "UEC-Perm Engines", at the celebratory assembly by the "MiG on Takeoff" monument. All the students received categories 2 or 3 depending on the level of competence.
24 students from Perm Aviation Technical School (3rd year of “Manufacturing Engineering” course) and 42 ones from Perm Technical School of Industrial and Information Technologies (2nd year, operators of multiple types of equipment and locksmiths) became the first people to undergo the “dual training”. Throughout the year the young people attended classes on the following schedule: A week – at the school, another week – in the plant’s shop. In total, each one of them spent more than 500 hours in the company.
Practical training took place in four shops of the plant (one of which was re-equipped into a specialized research and training shop). The students were not stuck in one working place, since the goal was to make them familiar with several types of equipment. For this reason, the trainees moved both throughout the shop floor and between different shops, from one machine to another, over a year.
Academic year passed, the students took theoretical and practical exams. The trainees did the 2-part qualification assignment with flying colors. They were given a work piece and a job instruction, and the task was to make a part and process it on a lathe and milling machine in 40 minutes. The fastest one to complete the assignment (27 minutes) was Dmitriy Kuznetsov from Perm Technical School of Industrial and Information Technologies. In the course of training he not only acquired the skills necessary for a turner, mill operator and grinder, but also tried his hand at a water jet cutting machine.
"When we came to the plant for the first time we couldn’t work at all, – says Anastasiya Ozhgikhina. – It was hard at first, of course: We had to make a lot of efforts to secure parts in the machine. Our Technical School has some machines too, but they are specifically designed for training, while here the machines are real and intended for work."
Next year the students from Perm Aviation Technical School (4th-year students by then) will go back to the plant. They will be assigned to different technological bureaus of the shops: According to the education plan, they are to become engineering technologists. At the moment mentors are being chosen, working places prepared, topics of future graduation theses picked out. In June 2017, after the thesis defense, the students will turn into rightful plant workers.
Olga Krasavina, HR Director of JSC "UEC-Perm Engines":
– Dual education program is an essential part of the series of company’s actions targeted at the preparation of personnel. It was the most important year for the plant and schools alike: We worked on methods of cooperation, prepared mentors, defined youth’s needs and interests, considered our mistakes, as well as adjusted our plans for the future. In the following academic year "Perm Engines" will once again invite 45 students from Perm Aviation Technical School and Perm Technical School of Industrial and Information Technologies. With regard to the previous experience, their training is likely to be even more sophisticated and efficient.
