In September 2016 the second testing phase of the latest Russian aircraft engine PD-14 will begin. Its main developer is Perm CB "Aircraft Engine", a member of the United Engine Corporation (UEC).
Flight tests of the PD-14 on the flying laboratory IL-76LL began last year in November. In total, PD-14 has carried out 15 flights.
"Finally, the engine confirmed its characteristics, and we have received certain remarks. Now it is being prepared for the second phase, that will begin in September. 50 flights are planned, then it will be possible to make a decision on the possible engine’s installation on the long distance aircraft ", the General Designer of CB" Aircraft Engine "Alexander Inozemtsev told Tass at the plenary session of the International Conference on Aero-physical research methods (ICMAR 2016).
According to him, the PD-14 will not yield to international analogues. According to the results of the first phase, it was noted, that the cost of operation, maintenance and overhaul of the new engine will be significantly lower than those of competitors’. "This thing is already proved, and debate on competitiveness has been already finished", said Alexander Inozemtsev.
As the General Designer of Aircraft Engines noted, the deadline on the implementation remains unchanged: in 2018 it is planned to receive the certificate of the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) and in 2019 to prolong it together with the European agency EASA.
The engine PD-14 is the first domestic development in the field of civil engine-construction for the last 30 years. It is created by the wide cooperation of enterprises of the United Engine Corporation for the new MS-21 airliner. It is considered, that it is possible to create a whole family of engines with the thrust of 9-18 tones for short-haul and medium-haul aircraft, helicopters and industrial gas turbines on the base of PD-14.
