Russia´s construction authorities have approved the project of a tunnel between the northern and southern terminals at Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport. The tunnel will connect the northern B and C terminals with the southern D, E and F terminals, which are separated by runways. Sheremetyevo Holding company, controlled by Arkady Rotenberg’s TPS Avia Group. plans to invest $330 million into the project, ATWonline reported.
The tunnel will allow a guaranteed 50 minute-minimum transfer time for passengers. Aeroflot, Sheremetyevo’s main carrier, will be able to use more efficiently the terminals of both sides. The Swiss-Austrian Doppelmayr Garaventa Group will provide the airport with transport solutions to carry passengers in the tunnel, German Beumer will develop the luggage transport system. It is forecast 11.1 million passengers and 5.9 luggage pieces per year will be transferred through the tunnel.
The tunnel creation is a part of an airport reconstruction program that was announced in 2013.
