Russia’s Aurora Airlines’ DHC-6 Twin Otter fleet carried 11,202 passengers from January-May, up 195% year-over-year. The Aeroflot subsidiary serves Russia’s Far East and operates two DHC-6s, ATWonline reported.
Aurora’s scheduled regional network in Primorsky Krai in the Far East includes eight destinations from Vladivostok and Terney. The flights are subsidized by the regional government.
Local authorities started an airport reconstruction program in the region, renovating airports and airfields that have not been used since the beginning of the 1990s.
Aurora’s fleet consists of more than 20 aircraft, including 10 Airbus A319s, as well as Bombardier Q400s, nine DHC-8s and two DHC-6 Twin Otters.
In the 2016 first quarter, Aurora carried a total of 276,827 passengers, up 22% year-over-year. The airline operates international flights to Hong Kong, Beijing, Tokyo, Harbin and Busan, as well as domestic flights to Khabarovsk, Magadan, Yakutsk, Novosibirsk and Irkutsk.
