Russia´s international traffic down 24.2%

Russian Aviaton » Wednesday June 1, 2016 22:06 MSK

Russian airlines carried 5.96 million passengers in January-April 2016, down 6.4% year-over-year (YOY). International traffic is down 24.2% to 2.06 million, while domestic traffic is up 6.8% to 3.9 million. The results could be explained with economic turbulence, as well as flights to Egypt suspended and a charters ban to Turkey implemented, ATWonline reported.

Russia’s five biggest airlines—Moscow-based Aeroflot, S7 Airlines, UTair, Ural Airlines and Rossiya Airlines—collectively carried 15.6 million passengers in the first four months of 2016, for a market share of 69.5%, up from 58.7% in the year-ago month. For the full year 2015, Russia’s top five airlines reported a market share of 61.4%.

Aeroflot carried 8.5 million passengers, up 13.9% YOY. Moscow and Novosibirsk-based Sibir, which is working under S7 Airlines brand, carried 2.6 million passengers, up 22.8%. Globus Airline, a second member of S7 Group, carried 774,884, up 21.5%. Official statistics separates airlines as they have two air operator’s certificates, but the group publishes collective results.

UTair, which has bases in Moscow, Tyumen and Surgut, carried 1.7 million passengers, up 18.8% YOY. Yekaterinburg-based Ural Airlines carried 1.5 million people, up 19.1% YOY. Aeroflot Saint Petersburg-based subsidiary Rossiya carried 1.4 million passengers, down 6.4% YOY.
