The head of Russia’s astronautics academy believes that a future base on the Moon, should it ever be created, should be equipped with a nuclear power source.

"We are considering all aspects of building a base on the Moon," said the academy’s president, Igor Barmin. "The main structure will consist of both inflatable and transformer modules. We’ve arrived at the conclusion that all of the modules to be delivered to the Moon should be high factory readiness ones. And they are to contain a nuclear power source.
