From June 2016 Sheremetyevo international airport expends its route network and starts serving China Southern Airlines flights to Guangzhou from terminal D. The First direct flight from Moscow to Guangzhou will take place on 20 June 2016.

The flights to Guangzhou will be operated four times a week (Mon, Tue, Thu, Sat) on the Airbus A330 with four classes of service and 257 seats. Passengers can chose between four classes of service: first, business, premium economy and economy class. Direct communication between Moscow and Guangzhou will allow passengers to travel with convenient connections to such major centers of Asia-Pacific region as Ho Chi Minh city, Bangkok, Singapore, Hanoi, Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne and other. Currently China Southern Airlines operates flights from Sheremetyevo to Guangzhou with a stopover in Wuhan. Expanding the geography of flights to China is one of the most important priorities for Sheremetyevo. In addition to Aeroflot five Chinese airlines perform flights between Moscow and Chinese cities: Air China, China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Hainan Airlines and Sichuan Airlines. In spring-summer season, Aeroflot increased the number of flights to Beijing from 2 to 3 times a day, and China Eastern Airlines from 7 to 10 flights a week to Shanghai.

In 2015, the airport served over 1.3 million passengers on Chinese directions. Nowadays the airport is the first in the world by the number of transfer passengers between China and Europe: every day more than 950 people fly to each direction.
