Emirates Airline will codeshare with Russia’s S7 Airlines as the Dubai-based carrier aims to increase its Russian network.
Under the codeshare agreement, Emirates will add its code to more than 30 S7 Airlines’ domestic routes and one international destination, Novosibirsk-Dubai. Emirates will add the S7 code to its Dubai-Moscow service, it said in a statement.
Emirates began its cooperation with S7 Airlines in 2003 with an interline agreement—which was expanded in 2008—to launch Dubai-Moscow service.
On Dec. 21, 2015, S7 Airlines also announced a codeshare agreement extension with United Arab Emirates flag carrier Etihad Airways. From Jan. 16, 2016, Etihad’s Abu Dhabi-Singapore service was added to the agreement, as well as S7 Airlines’ domestic routes from Moscow to Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk, Krasnoyarsk, Novy Urengoy, Omsk, Perm, Rostov-on-Don and Sochi.
S7 Airlines, which is the second largest carrier in Russia, includes the Sibir and Globus brand. The airlines carried 10.6 million passengers in 2015, up 5.6% year-over-year (YOY). S7 Airlines’ traffic was up 22.7% YOY in January 2016.
Last week, S7 Group co-owner Vladislav Filev said he would launch a new airline by the end of the year from Cyprus, which will be branded as Charlie Airlines.
