Russian airlines carried 5.1 million passengers in February, up 0.2% year-over-year (YOY), slowly reversing a downward trend, according to Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsia.
Cargo volumes grew 0.1% YOY in February to 73,445 tonnes. During the first two months of 2016, airlines carried 10.7 million passengers and 151,542 tonnes of cargo. In 2015, the total number of passengers carried decreased 1.2%, to 92.1 million.
Rosaviatsia predicts traffic figures will continue to settle down this year because of additional investments into airport infrastructure and domestic route subsidies. It plans to finish runway renovation at Volgograd, Samara, Krasnodar and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky airports this year. Nizhny Novgorod International Airport will open a new passenger terminal this year.
