Poland Could Send Four F-16 Jets to Patrol Syrian Airspace

Russian Aviaton » Monday February 15, 2016 14:54 MSK

At least 4 Polish F-16 jets could participate in air alert mission in Syria, the head of the National Security Bureau, Pawel Soloch, said Monday.

He added that Warsaw was ready to conduct patrol missions, adding that this move would show solidarity with its allies.

"Four Polish F-16 jet fighters could participate in the air policing of conflict-torn Syrian territories," Soloch told Polskie Radio.

Syria has been in a state of civil war since 2011, with the army loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting several opposition factions and terrorist organizations, including Daesh and al-Nusra Front.

A US-led coalition of over 60 nations, including Poland, has been conducting airstrikes on Daesh targets in Iraq and Syria since 2014, although it has not received a permission to do so from the UN Security Council or Damascus.
