Irkut’s PD-14 engine-equipped MC-21 begins flight laboratory tests

Russia’s Perm Engine Co. has assembled three PD-14 engines (100-07, 100-08 and 100-09) for Irkut MC-21 aircraft in 2015. The company has begun engine flying laboratory tests.

Through the beginning of 2016, Ilyushin Il-76LL aircraft, which was used as a flying test bed for the program, operated 12 test flights, Perm Engine Co. said in a statement. The
PD-14 engine-equipped MC-21 should operate its first flight in 2018. This year, the company will assemble four more PD-14s.

There are two engine options for the MC-21, which is being developed to compete with the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX. The alternative is the Pratt & Whitney PW1400G engine.

The manufacturer has also assembled 23 PS-90As engines for the Tupolev Tu-204 and Ilyushin Il-96 aircraft in 2015, up two engine types year-over-year. Three Tu-214s and eight Il-96s, equipped with Perm-assembled engines, were delivered last year.

In 2016, the company plans to manufacture 25 PS-90As.
