On December 6, 1996, the UN General Assembly proclaimed December 7thas International Civil Aviation Day in its Resolution (A/RES/51/33) and urged the governments and relevant national, regional, international and intergovernmental organizations to take appropriate steps for its celebration.
The Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), as a United Nations specialized agency, announced this day in 1992 in order to draw attention to the success of the international civil aviation and their extensions.
ICAO has begun celebrating this day since December 7, 1994, in connection with the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation, according to which ICAO was created. Later, this decision was supported by the U.N.
