Official comments on possible purchase of Russian air defense systems

No specific talks are underway on the possibility of providing air defense systems to Turkey, the chief of Russia’s federal service for military-technical cooperation, Aleksandr Fomin, told the media on Tuesday.

"No, no specific talks are underway for the time being," Fomin said in reply to a question.

Earlier, Turkish Defense Minister Fikri Isik said talks were underway over the possibility of acquiring air defense systems from Russia.

Later, Russian presidential aide for military-technical cooperation, Vladimir Kozhin, said Russia had had no talks with Turkey over S-300 air defense systems yet.

"There’ve been no talks, let alone decisions on selling S-300s to Turkey," he said.
