Government and private cooperation is effectively transforming the country’s main airport into one of Europe’s largest and leading hubs with broad opportunities for passengers and airline companies.
The RF Prime Minister, D.A. Medvedev, during the review of the exhibit, visited the display of Sheremetyevo International Airport. Mikhail Vasilenko, CEO of SIA JSC, told the head of the federal government about the airport development and modernisation programme up to 2026. The airport’s throughput will reach 85 million passengers per year by this deadline.
The most important phase in implementing the programme is preparation of the airport for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. It is planned by this time to commission terminal B, inter-terminal tunnels, new cargo and fuelling complexes, a third runway, and widen the Starosheremetyevskoye Highway.
Implementation of the development project will open a new phase in the history of the country’s main aviation hub. Commissioning of the new infrastructure will allow Sheremetyevo International Airport to ensure the planned increase in the number of passengers.
The synergy between the government and private investments makes Sheremetyevo International Airport a strong competitor among the leading European airports, which meets the growing market demands and fosters the development of the economies of Russia and the Moscow Region.
The 10th Anniversary International Forum “Transport of Russia” presented the RF Government with the annual work results of the transportation industry and provided a dialog between business and the authorities for a joint solution to the tasks facing the Russian Federation transportation complex.
