Members of the Russian, Belarussian and Serbian Special Forces have liberated the airfield captured by simulated illegal armed groups during the Slavic brotherhood 2016 exercise. They also secured the landing of main force group and its hardware.
Major General Oleg Polguyev told that the Russian units consisting of 32 people had landed on Arbalet-2 parachute systems from IL-76MD air transports at the Kovin airfield. Using stealth movement, they neutralized the outposts of the conventional enemy firing silent weapons.
After Russian paratroopers, the Serbian and Belorussian Special Force units landed from Mi-8 helicopters and captured the airfield with support of the Russian colleagues.
Moreover, the Serbian special units landed on the other side of the action zone and carried out a reconnaissance raid along the route of deployment of the main force group.
After the Kovin airfield had been captured, a mass landing operation started. The main force group consisted of three airborne fighting vehicles BMD-2, over 40 Russian paratroopers on D-10 parachutes and about 20 Belarussian colleagues on parachutes D-6. After meeting in the assembling point, the group headed to the Opeshats range to practice elimination of conventional illegal armed groups.
The international tactical exercise Slavic brotherhood 2016 is held on November 2-15 near Belgrade. It is participated by airborne units from Russia, Belarus and Serbia.
