Russia considers introducing electronic boarding passes

Russia’s Ministry of Transport has initiated legislation changes allowing passengers to use paperless boarding passes, taking away the contradiction that exists in current government regulations, ATWonline reported.

A regulation issued in July 2015 admits passengers can board with electronic passes, but legislation from July 2007 states airport security is obliged to stamp boarding passes when passengers pass through security.

The changes offered by Ministry of Transport at the end of September will be discussed publicly through Oct. 12. The Ministry expects the new rules will take effect in January 2017.

Besides airport security, border guard service is also required to stamp paper boarding passes, which may make introducing electronic board passes more difficult on international flights from Russia.
