Moscow’s Zhukovsky International Airport, which officiallyopened May 30, is receiving more traffic as Russian airlines receive route approvals, ATWonline reported.
Yekaterinburg-based Ural Airlines recently won permission for a 7X-weekly Zhukovsky-Burgas route and Salekhard-based Yamal Airlines received approval for a 4X-weekly Zhukovsky-Plovdiv service.
Zhukovsky International Airport is the fourth international airport to open in the Moscow region. Airport construction was announced at a time when airline traffic was robust in Russia. However, by the time the airport opened traffic was decreasing because of politic and economic turbulence. It was scheduled to receive its first flight in June 2016, but it wasn’t until September when Belavia Belarusian Airlines became the airport’s first carrier, launching daily Minsk-Zhukovsky service Sept. 12.
