Following a request from the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters, Canopus-B, a space vehicle of Russia's Federal Space Agency (ROSCOSMOS), has captured the imagery of the U.S. territory in connection with a major flood in the USA over a large area from the Illinois to the Mississippi, ROSCOSMOS informed.
The Research Center for Earth Operative Monitoring of JSC Russian Space Systems has received an inquiry from the Charter for the provision of remote Earth sensing data and promptly commenced the monitoring of the emergency area.
According to media reports, the flood killed 31 people, were more were evacuated.
The flood hit the states of Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi most, with immediate danger for the neighboring states of Louisiana and Tennessee. The water level is now going down in some areas of the State of Missouri.
