MetroJet (Russia) (7K, Kogalym) has applied to the Russian government for financial assistance roughly six weeks after it suspended operations and sent staff on leave.

Russia's Gazeta news site reports the leisure operator has submitted an application to Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich requesting a loan of RUB5 billion (USD64.3 million) to be spanned over three years. The letter sent, MetroJet's request is now being considered by the relevant government authorities.

MetroJet's business has been severely affected by the loss of two important Russian holiday markets - Egypt and Turkey. The former, Moscow embargoed following the bombing of a MetroJet A321-200 over the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt which killed all 217 passengers and 7 crew on-board, while the latter was due to Russia's imposition of economic sanctions against Turkey in response to its downing of a Russian fighter jet near the Syrian border last year.
