In 2016 the helicopter will be in full-scale production, and will be available on the market
Ulyanovsk Instrument Manufacturing Design Bureau, a KRET company, has completed the Mi-38 multirole transport helicopter’s type certification for the aircraft avionics.
The Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsya) has granted a certificate ensuring that the helicopter’ basic design is fully compliant with the Russian airworthiness codes. The new helicopter will be manufactured at full scale and marketed in 2016.
The first Mi-38 fuselage has already been assembled at Kazan Helicopters. All the major helicopter systems and components are made in Russia. Ulyanovsk Instrument Manufacturing Design Bureau has developed a health and usage monitoring system, an altitude/airspeed sensor suite, an integrated backup instrumentation system, and an emergency warning system for the helicopter.
Mi-38 is a new Russian multirole medium range helicopter. It fits between the renowned Mi-8 and the Mi-26, world’s largest helicopter. Thanks to its advanced design features the Mi-38 is best in class in terms of payload, number of passengers, and many other performance characteristics.
It is also one of the most computerized civil helicopters in the world. The equipment can perform automatic en-route flight, landing, hovering, and aircraft leveling in various flight modes. Mi-38 carries the IKBO-38 integrated avionics suite, and has five LCD screens.
The excellent performance has already been proved by setting new records. At the 14th FAI World Helicopter Championship the Mi-39 set a world record for helicopters in the 10,000 kg to 20,000 kg weight class reaching an 8,600 m altitude.
