Aircraft leased by Russia’s Transaero Airline were not maintained properly in a disregard of lease agreements, Sberbank president Herman Gref told Russia´s TV Rossiya 24 at the end of December 2015, ATWonline reported.
“As long as we work with that case, we discover new surprises—we have discovered unreliable financials and that aircraft were not maintained properly. Most of the aircraft are not in working order, while the debts to MRO providers are significant and we discover new debts. We do not have any contacts with the owners. I would recommend the owners to contact creditors and to be more loyal to us,” Gref said.
Sberbank was one of the main Transaero´s creditors, while its subsidiary Sberbank Leasing was one of the carrier’s lessors.
The bank filed a bankruptcy claim against Transaero on Oct. 19, after Aeroflot’s plans to acquire Transaero fell through. Its air operator’s certificate was canceled from Oct. 26, 2015. The Arbitration Court of Saint Petersburg and Leningrad region put Transaero under external supervision, in a decision published on the court’s website Dec. 16.
At the end of October 2015, it was announced Aeroflot would lease 14 former Transaero aircraft from Sberbank Leasing. The deal included 10 Boeing 737-800s planned for delivery in 2016 and four 747s.
