Mass media: Russian combat aircraft were not sent to Syria to fight Islamic State terrorist group

Russian combat aircraft are stationed at their home bases and were not sent to Syria to fight Islamic State terrorist group, a source close to Russian Ministry of Defense told RIA Novosti (with reference to Russia Today).

Ynetnews (Israel) reported that Russian fighters and attack helicopters would be sent to Syria to fight Islamic State terrorist group.

"No Russian combat aircraft were moved to Syria. Combat aircraft operated by Russian air forces are stationed at their home bases in accordance with the training program and the vehicles are on combat duty," a representative of the Ministry said.

Today Islamic State terrorist group is one of the major threats to international security. Over the last three years the terrorists managed to capture significant territories in Iraq and Syria. Moreover, they are trying to extend their influence in Northern Africa, in particular, Libya.
