Kaluga Airport serviced the first flight after a 13-year break

Kaluga International Airport serviced the first flights after a 13-year break. Embraer ERJ 145 aircraft departed from Pulkovo airport (St. Petersburg) at 7:30 (Moscow time) and arrived in Kaluga in 8:40 (Moscow time). 10 passengers arrived in Kaluga onboard the aircraft, TASS reports.

At 09:40 (Moscow time) the aircraft operated by Komiaviatrans departed from Kaluga to St. Petersburg with 25 passengers onboard. Komiaviatrans is the first air carrier to start cooperation with Kaluga Airport, press-service of the airport reports.

“The flight operated by Komiaviatrans delivered the first passengers to the airport. Flights between Kaluga and St. Petersburg are performed by Embraer ERJ 145 jet (able to carry up to 50 passengers) on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays,” the press-service added. Komiaviatrans will also be operating flights from Kaluga to Sochi on Saturdays.

Kaluga International Airport was put into operation after a 13-year break in late May. At first, it will be servicing 10 domestic and 15 international flights. The capacity of its terminal is 100 passengers per hour.

Kaluga Airport was opened in 1970s. In 2001 it was closed due to insufficient funding. In 2009 it was transferred to the possession of Kaluga Region and its reconstruction was started. Its terminal was reconstructed and a new runway with a length of 2,2 km was constructed.
