Alexander Veprev: Assembly of fuselage of the first MS-21 aircraft completed by 90%

Assembly of fuselage of the first MS-21short- and medium-haul passenger aircraft completed by 90%. Irkutsk Aviation Plant CEO Alexander Veprev told the President of Russia Vladimir Putin about it during a videoconference, TASS reports.

According to him, its suppliers should deliver a landing gear and two composite wings to the enterprise soon. The elements will be joined at this station of the assembly line and then the jet will be transferred to next station, where it will be fitted with different systems and equipment. Veprev added that mass production technologies are being developed in parallel with the jet’s assembly. “When will the aircraft’s mass production be started?” Putin asked. The CEO confirmed that the schedule remains the same and the mass production should be started in 2017. Representatives of the enterprise hope that the jet will be in demand as in case with military aircraft produced by Irkut Corporation.

“I hope that this liner will be purchased not only by Russian air carriers, but also by foreign ones,” the President added. Chief of the Presidential Administration of Russia, Sergey Ivanov, added that «the crisis helps us compete with Airbus”.
