Following the results of a competition held by Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, Sergey Leonidovich Chernyshev has been appointed Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI) CEO, TsAGI’s press-service reports.
S.L. Chernyshev was born in 1955. In 1978 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) and started working at TsAGI in the field of aircraft aerodynamics.
Dr. Chernyshev’s professional interests include numerical methods of aerodynamics, laminar flow control, and sonic boom. He was carrying out research related to development of next-generation supersonic passenger aircraft for a long time.
“Today, Chernyshev is a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Zhukovsky town district, Scientific Supervisor of the Aeromechanics and Aircraft Department of MIPT, Head of Flight Physics department, a Member of the Board of Guardians of the Aeromechanics and Flight Engineering Department of MIPT, and a Member of the International Committee of the AIAA, as well as the Vice-President of the EUropean Conference for Aeronautics and Space Sciences (EUCASS).
Dr. Chernyshev received the Order For Merit to the Fatherland (1998), the honorary international award Laurels (2001), the Order of Friendship (2011), the national order of the French Republic — the Order for Merit (2011), the Award of the Government of the Russian Federation of 2012 in the field of science and technology (2013), the Award of Professor N.E. Zhukovsky for distinguished teaching aid in aviation disciplines (2014), and the Award of Academician G.I. Petrov for distinguished works in the field of the theory of hydrodynamic stability and turbulence (2014).
