A new heavy long-haul aircraft developed by Russia in cooperation with China may be powered by an engine derived from NK-32; the same solution may be used for a next-generation military-transport aircraft, Vice-premier Dmitry Rogozin said during his meeting with the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin’s press-service reports.
During the meeting with the President, Rogozin told him about plans for import substitution in the area of engine building. According to him, a decision was made to focus on development of indigenous engines. In particular, Perm Engine Company is going to develop new engines on the basis of PD-14 engine core; this will help Russia expand the aircraft engines segment.
“The same solution may be used in case with NK-32 engine (by means of scaling PD-14 engine core). At present strategic bombers are powered by these engines, moreover, an engine for military-transport aircraft and a heavy long-haul wide-body aircraft may be derived from NK-32. I have already told our Chinese colleagues that we are able to implement this project without a third party. And they took it seriously,” Dmitry Rogozin said.
