The repair of RD-33 engines for MiG-29 fighter jets took place at Chernyshev Moscow Machine-Building Enterprise, a subsidiary of United Engine Corporation (UEC). As part of the import substitution program, the enterprise abandoned the use of Ukrainian component parts.

The contract to repair RD-33 engines for fighter jets of the Russian Air Force has been completed ahead of schedule, according to the UEC press service.

The state contract between Chernyshev Moscow Machine-Building Enterprise and the Ministry of Defense was set to last for three years. The agreement mandated the project’s completion by November 15, 2015, but UEC completed the work on June 24th.

According to the agreement, Chernyshev Moscow Machine-Building Enterprise repaired the Series 2 RD-33 engines for MiG-29 helicopters.

Based on the import substitution program, the company abandoned the use of Ukrainian components, using instead production units from MPO-Rumyantsev, a decision approved by the Ministry of Defense.

“This contract was completed ahead of schedule, despite the large amount of work that the company oversees. Currently we are entirely booked with contracts. Our teams are working on the new VK-2500 engines for Mi and Ka helicopters, as well the TV7-117V engines for Mi helicopters, and the TV7-117ST engines for Il-112 military-transport aircraft,” said Amir Khakimov, Managing Director of Chernyshev Moscow Machine-Building Enterprise.

Chernyshev Moscow Machine-Building Enterprise, part of UEC’s engines division, produces the RD-33 engine and its various modifications for the MiG-35, MiG-29, MiG-29SMT, MiG-29K/KUB and MiG-29M/M2 aircrafts. This engine is utilized by Russian and foreign air forces. One important area of activity is the repair and after-sales support of the RD-33 engine and its modifications. Currently the company is developing parts for the TV3-117 (VK-2500) aircraft engine in conjunction with Klimov and Ufa Engine Industrial Association.
