Ilyushin Company is working on fitting Il-76MD aircraft with medical modules

Ilyushin Company is upgrading Il-76MD military-transport aircraft operated by Russian air forces in order to allow fitting the jets with next-generation airmobile medical modules, Ilyushin’s press-service reports.

“The Russian armed forces took delivery of the next-generation medical modules designed for evacuation of injured persons to hospitals. The modules allow carrying out the resuscitation during flight in order to save lives of patients. Specialists of Ilyushin Company are working on upgrading Il-76MD heavy military-transport aircraft operated by Russian air forces in order to allow fitting the jets with next-generation airmobile medical modules. A total of five jets of the type will be upgraded; the work is being carried out at Chkalovskiy airfield (Moscow Region),” the company noted.

Upgrade of the first aircraft has already been completed, it is ready for ground and flight testing, which will be carried by a joint crew comprising test pilots of Ilyushin Company and Russian air forces. Similar medical modules were being successfully operated onboard EMERCOM’s Il-76TD jets over the last eight years.
