The test program of Ka-52K carrier-based scout-attack helicopter intended for Mistral helicopter carriers is on schedule, Interfax-AVN reports with reference to Russian Helicopters Deputy CEO Andrei Shibitov.
“Ka-52K project is significant contribution to increase of reliability and extension of service life as well as improvement of aircraft performance. The project will be implemented anyway, regardless of Mistrals’ fate,” Shibitov said at a press conference held at the Interfax’s headquarter. According to him, “the program is on schedule”. “State and production testing of the helicopter are scheduled for this year,” Shibitov added. He noted that in future Ka-52K carrier-based vehicles would replace some Ka-52 helicopters. “As for the ratio between the models – it will be defined by the Ministry of Defense,” he said.
Ka-52K “Katran” is the military carrier-based scout-attack helicopter derived from Ka-52 “Alligator”. However, it differs from the original Ka-52, because it is designed to be operated from a carrier. That is why the helicopter is fitted with folding wings and rotor blades, as well as air conditioning system suited for operation under high humidity conditions. Ka-52K performed its maiden flight on March 7th 2015.
