Iran expects to take delivery of Russian S-300 air defense systems soon, RIA Novosti reports with reference to Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

“Negotiations and meeting related to this matter (deliveries of S-300 air defense systems) were very successful. I believe that matter will be resolved soon. If it's God's will, the deliveries will be started at the first opportunity. Everything went very well,” he said speaking about delivery schedule of S-300 air defense systems to Iran.

After Russia joined the resolution of UN Security Council signed on June 9th 2010, which imposed significant restrictions on selling weapons and equipment to Iran, the contract for delivery of five divisions of S-300 PMU-1 air defense systems to Iran was put on hold. In April 2015 the President of Russia Vladimir Putin lifted a ban on deliveries of S-300 systems to Iran by signing a corresponding order.
