Almaz-Antey filed a claim to the General Court of EU in Luxembourg to lift sanctions against the concern; the company also asked the Secretariat General to explain the reasons for including Almaz-Antey in the sanctions list, TASS reports with reference to the concern’s press-service.

Legal Affairs Directorate of Almaz-Antey noted: “Decision of EU Council on including the concern in the sanctions list violates the regulations and principles of EU, because there is no evidence of the concern’s involvement in destabilization of situation in Ukraine and no rationale”.

“Inclusion of the concern in the sanctions list was an unreasonable decision, which violates fundamental rights granted by EU Charter of Fundamental Rights,” Almaz-Antey CEO Yan Novikov said. According to him, «EU Council did not presented any evidence of the concern’s involvement in destabilization of situation in Ukraine”.

“In order to officially appeal the sanctions the concern addressed the Secretariat General (Brussels, Belgium) and asked it to reconsider the facts of the case and present evidence and other information on account of which the EU Council made the decision to include the concern into the sanctions list,” said in a press-release.

Moreover, in order to appeal the sanctions the company filed a lawsuit to General Court of EU (Luxembourg) to reverse a decision of the EU Council 2015/432/CFSP made on March 13th 2015 and EU Council regulations No. 2015/427, which extended the sanctions against the company in terms of  “freezing the assets”. The press-service noted that Taylor Wessing law firm (Germany) will help Almaz-Antey appeal the sanctions and will take part in legal and non-legal proceedings and negotiations on behalf of the concern”.

Almaz-Antey Concern was established in 2002. It comprises 46 enterprises: plants, scientific production associations, design bureaus and scientific research institutes, specializing in development and production of air defense systems, major types of radars and automatic control systems.
