Aircraft industry, Sukhoi Holding Company and its branch – Sukhoi Design Bureau, suffered a grievous loss. On May 15th 2015 outstanding man and aircraft designer – First Deputy Director of Sukhoi Design Bureau Alexander Fedorovich Barkovsky aged 72 died after severe illness. He was buried on May 18th at Vagankovo Cemetery in Moscow, press-service of Sukhoi Company reports.
Alexander Fedorovich started working in aircraft industry in 1961. In 1969 he started working at Sukhoi Design Bureau and made his way from production engineer to Director of the design bureau. In off-work hours he studied and graduated from Moscow Aviation Institute. He was taking part in development of Su-24 bomber. He made an invaluable contribution to development of Su-30K and carrier-based Su-33 jets. He also contributed to development, production flight testing and refinement of Su-30MKI multi-role fighter as a Chief Designer and First Deputy General Designer. We remind you that Su-30SM fighter operated by Russian air forces was derived from Su-30MKI aircraft. As a technical leader of the Sukhoi Design Bureau he participated in development and testing of the latest aircraft – Su-35S and T-50. Thanks to his activities air forces of Russia and other countries are operating hundreds of Sukhoi aircraft: Su-24, Su-33, Su-30MKI, Su-30MKM, Su-30MKI(A), Su-30SM, Su-34, Su-35S. Dozens of inventions and scientific works, which are pride of our aircraft industry and our country, have been implemented thanks to him.
“Life and career of Alexnader Fedorovich are example of dedication to interests of our country and aviation, he was known for his culture, attentiveness and utmost respect for every employee of the company. Wisdom and professionalism, used for making decisions, as well as outstanding humanness allowed the company not only to deliver best aircraft to the country, but also keep and develop traditions of Sukhoi Design Bureau,” the press-service added.
Alexander Fedorovich paid special attention to working with young employees, he entrusted the most complicated tasks to them and demonstrated commitment and professionalism by his own example.
“For his great contribution to development of aircraft Barkovsky A.F. was awarded with the Medal of the Order of Merit to the Fatherland (2nd class), Order of Honor, State Prize of Russian Federation and the Prize of P.O. Sukhoi (1st class). The memory of Alexander Fedorovich will always be in our hearts,” said in the statement.
