Rosoboronexport hopes to sign a contract for delivery of Pantsir-S1 air defense missile-gun systems to Brazil in 2015, Vedomosti reports with reference to Rosoboronexport Deputy CEO Sergey Goreslavskiy.

“We are at the final stages of pre-contract work. In fact we are harmonizing technical aspects of this matter in the network of objectives set by the Brazilian partners connected with modifying a number of systems for using Pantsir-S1 in Brazil,” he told journalists at LAAD-2015 exhibition held in Rio de Janeiro.

According to Goreslavskiy, the Brazil’s interest in Pantsir systems is no coincidence – the system was a part of security system at Sochi Olympic Games. “That is why besides “pure military” interest, Brazil judges from the need to provide security at Olympic Games to be held in the country next year,” he explained.

Pantsir-S1 air defense missile-gun system was developed by Tula-based KBP Instrument Design Bureau named after A.G. Shipunov (part of NPO Vysokotochniye Kompleksi (stands for High Precision Systems)). The system is fitted with 30-mm automatic cannons and guided missiles; it is able to destroy cruise missiles, UAVs, aircraft and ground targets within the radius of 20 km and at altitudes of up to 15 km.

Russia is delivering military helicopters to Brazil. For example, Mi-35M multi-role combat helicopters, Goreslavskiy reminded. An MRO center intended for servicing Russian-produced Mi-35M multi-role combat helicopters delivered to Brazil in late 2014 will be opened this year, he added. Moreover, Russian Yak-130 operational trainer is being promoted at Brazilian market. “Brazil is interested in Yak-130 jets. We keep on working on promotion of this aircraft in the country,” Goreslavskiy added.
